Utilizing Health Realization in Clinical Practice with Mental Illnesses

The presenter will be Bob Shaw, MS, LPC, with Heinz Psychological. In his discussion, he will look at human behavior through a health realization perspective and discuss principles in how they relate to how we think. He will also explore consciousness, mind and thought and how they relate to creating our reality and how to apply health realizations to different mental health disorders. especially informational for healthcare professionals, mental health counselors, therapists, teachers and parents, law enforcement, drug and alcohol counselors and anyone else interested in the topic. Pre-registration is not required and there is no fee to attend.

Siblings Class

A special class for big brothers and sisters, ages 4-10 for the arrival of the new addition to their family. Parents will also gain knowledge to help them prepare their children for the new baby. Register online or call 726-3421. This class is also offered October 28, 2008.

Prenatal Classes

FREE - Registration is not required.
Free series taught by Registered Nurses specializing in obstetrics. For more information, call our Birth Center, 726-3421, or send them an email. Classes are held four consecutive Mondays. New sessions start September 22 and November 17, 2008.

Refresher Prenatal Class

FREE - Registration is not required.
For those who have experienced childbirth and would like a refresher on breathing and relaxation techniques. Registration is not necessary.

Be A Friend 4 Life
October 1, 2008
Through education, caring and early detection, the Be A Friend 4 Life™ program brings together a community of women to fight the diseases that pose the greatest risk to women's health. Help spread the word about early detection and prevention of breast cancer by coming an ambassador for breast health awareness. Each kit contains notecards to send to your friends reminding them to have their mammogram. A mirror cling is also included, to hang on your bathroom mirror as a reminder for monthly self-exams. Each Ambassador recieves a pink bracelet to promote the awareness campaign. To recieve a free kit by mail, call 726-3300 or go to www.beafriend4life to request one via email.

ONGOING CLASSES

E-Quit : Online Stop Smoking Program— If you want to stop smoking but don't want to come to weekly group meetings, we now offer individual guidance from Respiratory Therapists specially trained in smoking cessation. Following an individualized assessment held at the hospital, goals and a realistic quit date will be established. Weekly sessions are emailed with opportunities for questions, concerns, and progress reports via email (at your convenience and based on your needs). Participants can start anytime. Cost is $50.

Way For Life: Online Weight Management Program— If you want to learn about eating healthy but don't have time to come to evening meetings or dislike group sessions, get individualized guidance from our nutrition professionals with weekly sessions emailed directly to your home. After a one-on-one consultation with a Registered Dietitian, you will set realistic goals for your specific needs. You are emailed sessions weekly. You can email your questions, concerns, and progress reports back at your convenience. This series is facilitated by a Registered Dietitian with special training in adult weight management from the American Dietetic Association. Participants can start any time. Cost is $175.

Grief Support Group— If you or someone you know experienced the loss of a significant person in your life, the Chippewa County Grief Support Group is here to help. The Grief Support Group offers the opportunity for participants to discuss or listen about adjusting to life without their loved one. The ongoing group sessions are free of charge and are facilitated by a collaborative group of grief professionals. The group offers afternoon and evening sessions. Evening sessions are held the second and fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Afternoon sessions are held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.  All sessions are held at St. Joseph's Hospital.
