SJH receives WAVE award for community service programs
Six representatives from St. Joseph's Hospital traveled to Madison earlier this month to receive the Partners of WHA's Wisconsin Awards for Volunteer Excellence (WAVE) for Community Service Programs during the Partners of Wisconsin Hospital Association's annual conference Oct. 16-18.
Other WAVE awards were given, including: In-Service Hospital Volunteer Programs - St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary (Green Bay); Fundraising Programs - Stoughton Hospital; and Community Outreach and/or Collaborations Programs - UW Health Partners - Watertown Regional Medical Center.
St. Joseph's Hospital representatives, Mary Lynn Toycen, Vivian Dahl, Betty Oddo, Janet Rubenzer Pike, Brandalee Sikora and Dawn Bye, contributed to the more than 350 health care volunteers from throughout Wisconsin who were inspired to "Soar with an Eagle" at the annual convention.
Heather Whittaker, our keynote speaker, opened on Tuesday with "Love 'Em or They'll Leave," and the convention came to an end on Thursday with "Humor for the Health of It," by Patricia Lorenz, a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" contributor.
The convention provides educational opportunities for volunteers who contribute to the health of their communities and the operations of their healthcare organizations. This year's format allowed twice as many opportunities for learning. Workshops offered included topics for individual health, more effective fundraising, and leadership development.
The award Best of the Best award is given annually to an Administrator of CEO/COO who has demonstrated a well-defined and supportive relationship with his/her volunteer group. This year, two administrators were recognized - Faye Deich (Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire) and Jon Rozenfeld (St. Mary's - Madison).
