St. Joseph’s Hospital now offering additional level of cardiac rehabilitation
Earlier this month, St. Joseph’s Hospital began offering Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation services for patients who have experienced a heart attack or other cardiac event and who have completed a Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation program – either at St. Joseph’s or with another facility.
Typically, Cardiac Rehabilitation programs are structured to include three phases. Phase I is completed in the hospital following a patient’s cardiac event, with Phases II and III completed on an outpatient basis. Topics addressed include diet, exercise and how to safely transition back into everyday activities – with phases progressing from one to the next.
The clinical difference between the Phase II and Phase III program is that individuals participating in the Phase III program will not be continuously monitored in regard to their blood pressure, heart rate or heart rhythm. However, while the Phase III program is an independent exercise maintenance program, it will be managed by Cardiac Rehabilitation Registered Nurses who will provide assistance as needed.
The cost of the Phase III program is $30 per month. The service is not covered by Medicare, Medical Assistance or commercial insurances.
