St. Joseph's Hospital receives prestigious patient satisfaction award
CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. – St. Joseph’s Hospitalis proud to announce that Press Ganey Associates, Inc. has named it a 2009 Summit Award Winner. The award recognizes top-performing facilities for customer satisfaction and is regarded as the health care satisfaction industry’s most coveted symbol of achievement. St. Joseph’s Hospital representatives accepted the award at a recognition ceremony today in National Harbor, Md.
St. Joseph’s Hospital is one of two hospitals in Wisconsin to receive this prestigious honor in the category of Inpatient Service – and one of just 32 hospitals nationwide to win in this category. To qualify for the Press Ganey Summit Award, an organization must achieve a 95 percent or higher patient satisfaction rank for 12 consecutive quarters (36 months). St. Joseph’s patient satisfaction rank for inpatient service has exceeded the requirements, achieving a 99 percent rank for 10 of the 12 quarters.
“Receiving this national award is a special honor to the colleagues and physicians of St. Joseph’s Hospital,” said Debbie Lauer, RN, Home Health/Hospice Director at St. Joseph’s Hospital. “The Chippewa Valley should be proud and reassured to know that they have one of the best hospitals in patient satisfaction in the country.”
Dave Fish, president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph’s Hospital, elaborated on the facility’s high standards of excellence.
“This accomplishment reflects the longstanding history and heritage of the Hospital Sisters who, for over 124 years, have deliberately focused on serving others in a competent, kind and loving manner,” Fish said. “The Summit Award reflects the ongoing commitment to our Sisters’ tradition and represents a significant accomplishment by all those who are actively involved with St. Joseph’s Hospital today.”
Lauer, who chairs St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Journey to Service Excellence Committee, explained that the hospital measures its patients’ satisfaction through surveys sent in the mail following discharge. She said an increase in focus on patient satisfaction began several years ago under Fish’s direction.
“With his and our current administration support, our committee is able to provide colleague education related to patient needs and perceptions,” Lauer said. “This education begins with employment and is provided on an ongoing basis. We also review every survey returned to us and will follow up on every improvement opportunity given us. There have been many changes made in our processes and services based on our patient input in order to achieve a quality patient experience. And, for this, we thank our patients.”
Richard B. Siegrist, Jr., president and CEO of Press Ganey, expressed the company’s pride at partnering with St. Joseph’s Hospital.
“St. Joseph’s Hospital continues to maintain a high level of patient satisfaction over the past three years,” Siegrist said. “Their efforts benefit Chippewa Falls and surrounding communitiesand lead to improved delivery of health care.”
Press Ganey currently partners with more than 10,000 health care facilities to measure and improve the quality of their care. The company’s databases are the largest in the industry and allow facilities nationwide to benchmark their results against peer organizations.
