Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP)

Chippewa Health Improvement Partnership is a collaborative endeavor striving to enhance the quality of life of the residents of Chippewa County, through educational and preventative initiatives promoting wellness and good health.

CHIP identifies health needs and establishes priorities from which collaborative activities are created to help improve the health status and quality of life of our community. View the official CHIP website.

Our accomplishments include:

  • Partner in the formation of the Chippewa County Dental Foundation, Inc.
  • Partner in the formation of the Marshfield Clinic Chippewa Dental Center
  • Partner in the formation of the Open Door Clinic
  • Developed Chippewa County resource website
  • Lead effort in getting cardiac defibrillators for community facilities.

Challenge Chippewa promotes lifelong fitness and improved well-being by encouraging adults and children of all ages to eat healthier, increase their physical activity, reduce their consumption of sweetened beverages, and drink water for hydration.

Access to affordable, healthy food is paramount to good health. As part of a comprehensive approach to food security in Chippewa County this team partners with area food pantries, HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital, and other community agencies to increase access to adequate, appropriate, safe food and nutrition while building a stronger network of support for the pantries and their patrons.

Transportation Action Team    View more information.

This team is identifying transportation needs of area residents within identified focus areas of CHIP. Increasing access to nutritious food by reducing transportation barriers will be an initial priority.

Flourish Action Team    View more information.

Passionate about cultivating a sense of well-being within the community, this team promotes the importance of self-care and the acceptance and understanding of those struggling with mental health difficulties and encourages a culture of compassion and support.

Infant Mental Health Action Team    View more information.

This action team's focus is promoting the social and emotional development of our youngest children by educating professionals and the community at large about factors that affect infant mental health and the development of the infant brain. They will create a comprehensive community awareness/education infant mental health plan to guide their efforts.

Increasing Awareness of the Hands on Provider Action Team    View more information.

This team works to support the healthy social, emotional development of young children in Chippewa County by developing and implementing strategies to increase the community's ability to respond to young children's social emotional needs by increasing knowledge of community resources and skills at supporting healthy social emotional development in hands on providers.

To support the healthy social emotional development of young children in Chippewa County by developing and implementing strategies to increase the community's ability to respond to young children's social emotional needs through awareness and education of the importance of early relationship and experiences.

Voices In Prevention Action Team    View more information.

The use of mind and behavior-altering substances continues to take a major toll on the health of individuals, families, and communities nationwide, and our county is no exception. This group's first undertaking is coordinating a comprehensive community awareness campaign on current drug trends including prescription drug abuse, heroin, and other illegal drug use. The team will incorporate asset building into prevention planning. The Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps members serving the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District is part of Voices in Prevention.

Understanding that the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, October 2013, would have a profound impact on the residents of Chippewa County and surrounding areas, CHIP coordinated an action team of area agency representatives to identify agencies willing to provide CAC and/or Navigator enrollment assisters for the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace to develop and provide community education on ACA enrollment specifics and to develop a speakers bureau of local "experts".

Chronic disease (such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes) are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems and are the leading causes of death and disability. This action team provides community education and awareness on various types of chronic diseases, including causes, treatments, and how lifestyle choices affect the diseases. Our educators promote helpful, positive lifestyle changes, and encourage people to live life to the fullest, regardless of their health status.

OUR HISTORY

Since 1994, HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital has hosted Chippewa Health Improvement Partnership (formally called Chippewa Falls 2000/2010). With representatives from schools, churches, businesses, medical facilities, senior citizens, government and legal agencies, CHIP initiatives have strived to enhance the quality of life for residents of Chippewa County.
