The laboratory at St. Joseph's Hospital is staffed with medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, and phlebotomists who serve patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The laboratory provides testing for inpatients, outpatients, and industry employees through the hospital's Occupational Health Center and reference testing for physician offices and local nursing homes. Outpatients must register in the Admitting Services (located in the front of the hospital) before presenting to the laboratory for service.
Accredited by the College of American Pathologists, our laboratory is full-service, has up-to-date technology and provides an extensive list of tests that are performed on-site. For specialized, non-routine tests, the laboratory uses well-known reference laboratories such as Marshfield Laboratories, Mayo Medical Laboratories, the State Laboratory of Hygiene and Sacred Heart Hospital Laboratory.
Our full service Pathology Services is staffed with histology technicians Monday through Friday during most business hours supporting a full-time in-house pathologist. A rotating call schedule of pathologists is provided for after hours needs.
SHARPS DISPOSAL PROGRAM
St. Joseph's Hospital collects and properly disposes of sharp medical wastes such as needles and lancets, commonly known as sharps. Our program meets the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources requirements for sharps disposal and reduces the risk of passing on blood borne infection.
Large and small containers can be purchased in the hospital Gift Shop. Medical waste is properly disposed of free of charge when people bring the container back to the hospital Laboratory.
