In 2010, St. Joseph's colleagues decided to build a Healing Garden in front of the main entrance of the Hospital. Research shows that well-designed Hospital Healing Gardens not only provide a restorative and calming environment, they also soothe patients, reduce pain, and shorten Hospital stays. For families and visitors, a Healing Garden can be a welcome escape from stressful clinical settings.

A colleague campaign was formed and money was collected throughout the year via payroll deductions and one-time donations. A landscape architect and a local landscaping company worked with a colleague task force and the Development Office to come up with design and costs of the garden. The garden was finished in the fall of 2011, with furniture (also paid with colleague donations) coming in the spring of 2012.
